BACKGROUND TO BIKINILICIOUS

To all who have the ingrown hair problem I will share my background to the launching of BIKINILICIOUS and how it all began. My quest began several years ago after having waxed thousands of clients over 20 years. I found one common problem that 80-90% of my clients experienced: INGROWN HAIRS.

For years I have wanted to help suffers from ingrown hairs (myself included) I wanted to find a solution. My desire was to develop a product that would alleviate the suffering from annoying ingrown hairs and help reverse the awful blemish scarring that occurs. I decided to investigate and learn more about the infamous ingrown hair which I find personally unsightly and one addition to our bikini area that we just don’t want !!

In my search for ingrown-hair products I came to realise there was nothing out there that had been developed specifically for the bikini area. I gathered as much information on ingrown hairs as I could, looking to find a product that worked - anything that could possibly help people with this problem. I shared whatever information I found and every newly discovered ingrown- hair product I came across with my clients in the hope that it would work, but each time to no avail. My clients also shared their experience of products they had tried that I didn’t know about. Eventually a few years ago there was a product on the market that worked well and with the help of a chemist, we isolated some of the ingredients that were necessary to make a good ingrown hair product, this marked the beginning.

From there I began my research into what ingredients would be beneficial and blend well together with the help of my chemist. My desire was to use all natural ingredients but I learned from the chemist that for the product to be most effective some of the ingredients had to be unnatural . Finally, a few years ago, I decided on the ingredients I wanted, that when blended together, would function synergistically. I wanted to produce a before and after wax-care product specifically for our sensitive bikini area to combat ingrowns. An Exfoliating and Healing product that when used would benefit our skin in more ways than one, to reduce the break-out cycle of ingrown hairs, help to clear up those discolouration reddish brown marks and more.

WHAT ARE INGROWN HAIRS?

An ingrown hair is a condition where the hair doesn’t grow up to the skin surface and exit the pore. Instead the hair is trapped and grows under the skin, spiralling beneath the surface causing irritation. Although ingrown hairs can happen naturally, it usually occurs after many hair removal methods. Ingrown hairs are unsightly, painful and often look like little black dots or swollen red bumps on the skin. They are common, they’re a nuisance and some people just get them (myself included). Ingrown hairs can affect anyone.

WHAT HAPPENS AND WHY DO WE GET THEM?

I would like everyone to understand how ingrown hairs can occur in layman’s terms based on my experience. Our biggest mistake is picking and prodding these ghastly ingrown hairs. What happens on a microscopic level is that when we start squishing the skin to try and remove the ingrown hair, we are actually making mincemeat out of our poor skin. What we have created by picking is scar tissue, and once the damage is done it is done for good.

In the body’s innate intelligence the skin attempts to heal and repair itself by knitting together and regenerating new layers of skin, blocking the hair’s pathway. So the hair will twist and grow under the skin

Until it finds another exit to grow from. Naturally like a plant the hair grows to the surface and the light.

Along the bikini line are strong, deep rooted hairs. Waxing is popular and slows the hair growth but it literally pulls the hair out from the root. If we can imagine, from the skin’s perspective this is traumatic to the skin and root sac (where the root bulb is connected). Each hair with its root bulb is attached and connected to the rest of the body, and sometimes in the process the root sac is damaged. We can imagine the wound and the hole that would be left where the living hair was pulled out. Symptoms of ingrown hairs can include itching, a purplish red rash and pustules. Some people are more prone to ingrown hairs than others and it is quite common to want to pick at the offending ingrown hair, but if infection gets into the pore it can cause havoc to your skin.

So what can we do to help reverse this problem? The number one ingrown hair solution is regular exfoliation.

WHAT DOES EXFOLIATION DO AND WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Exfoliation removes dead skin, rejuvenating our skin and making it look lovely, healthy and naturally beautiful. Exfoliation should be the main focus of a homecare program for ingrowns. What exfoliation does is create blood flow to the bikini zone, This increased blood flow draws infection & hair to the surface to be released. Exfoliate daily for a bump free smooth skin! But don’t expect a miracle overnight. This is a regime that needs to be done regularly and ongoingly, especially if you want to keep the bikini zone hair-free.

Regular daily exfoliation is essential in helping to eradicate the ingrown hairs. HOW TO EXFOLIATE

• Begin by wetting/washing the waxed area zone of skin to be exfoliated using warm water.
• Gloves: Use exfoliation gloves to exfoliate.

• Scrub: Apply Bikinilicious Ingrown Exfoliatus onto damp skin, applying to the waxed area. (But careful not to exfoliate on the genital area).
• Making smooth circular motions on the skin, gently massage the V area, and underwear line that meets the top of the thigh, for approx 60 seconds.
• With warm water just splash off when you feel you’ve exfoliated enough.
• Gel: After either of the daily exfoliation processes (when you’re out of the shower and dried off) complete the process by applying a small amount of Bikinilicious Ingrown Healing Balm onto the skin daily.
